Mostly Merlin fanart - and some Sherlock. Pale cheekbones galore! Yes, I'm obsessed...
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Hi again! Here’s my 2nd submission to Let’s Draw Sherlock’s “musical art” challenge, inspired by Gotye’s Somebody That I Used to Know. Ah, I was so obsessed with this song… Watch the remarkable music video here! A few lyrics do somewhat apply to John and Sherlock, eh? Angsty… Anyway, this is a pencil drawing that’s digitally edited and coloured. It’s great my last piece has been so liked, and I hope this is also enjoyed. Would love to get some thoughts! ^^ (MY ART TAG)
Hello! Here’s another piece I’ve done for Let’s Draw Sherlock. It’s based on the “Demon Days” album art for Gorillaz (which I believe was inspired by The Beatles’ “Let It Be” cover). Rather than struggle to choose just four characters, I decided to display Sherlock’s different outfits and disguises, and then I just had to add the cigarette! It was good fun applying the Gorillaz characters’ style to him - especially with those eyebrows, eh? Oh, in case you wonder, he’s facing left for the sole purpose of showing off the damage John did to his cheekbone! Poor thing… (MY ART TAG)
Okay, so it might look like I’ve been avoiding backgrounds and limbs… (because I have) but after my next page, Merlin and Arthur will finally move from that darn table and begin their fun! I myself am looking forward to some action and scenery in these pages. Ah, I’m moving house at the moment, and am illustrating for the Merlin Big Bang, so I’m afraid my updates won’t be getting any faster! Sorries… I’m so glad for you all being patient and still enjoying the read, thank you!
Some more work for Let’s Draw Sherlock! (Thank you for all the lovely praise for my first piece; glad it entertained!) These are portraits of John and Sherlock that depict moments surrounding The Fall - based on Leonardo da Vinci’s “Study of a Woman” and “Study of a Figure for the Battle of Anghiari”. I began with plain pencil sketches, then had fun messing with them in Paint Tool SAI and Photoshop. (MY ART TAG)
Here’s a super rough harpy!Ariel!Colin that I drew quite a while ago, and have just convinced myself to post as is (I gotta learn to stop refining everything). I sketched this right after those rehearsal photos came out, hence the shaggy hairdo, and then added the pink after his actual costume was revealed. I’ll admit that I wasn’t too fond of Ariel’s design - not just because of how conservative it was! Well, I did find a few elements interesting; the massive skull he wears, for example. I’d like to incorporate that into another version of this… some day. (MY ART TAG)
For Let’s Draw Sherlock! (also a contribution to Red Pants Monday)
So, what if John’s tan did extend above his wrists? Ha! Anyway, yes, this is a digital painting of John Watson (with his bulldog, Gladstone - sadly absent from the show) based on the Coppertone Girl from the original 50s ad. Deepest apologies to Martin Freeman… Well, I’ll probably leave this looking like a WIP, because damn his legs! (MY ART TAG)
Arthur Arisen
Merlin had sworn to serve his King until the day he dies… and so the immortal sorcerer waited. Over a thousand years pass, feeling like an eternity, before… at last… Arthur returns from Avalon.
I finished this piece about a month ago for the Merlin Art Fest and am so excited to finally share it here personally! The prompt was “hug” so I thought a post 5x13 reunion scene would be just perfect to portray… Well, when Lancelot came back from the dead, he didn’t have anything on! Why should Arthur? I wasn’t just too lazy to paint his armour… Anyway, the squick for this prompt was “girly men”, so why not show off some bare muscle along with Merlin’s scruffiness? Hope you enjoy! ^^
Let’s share another tear, Merlin fandom! Ah… Just a quick sketch to express my feelings… and also to loosen up a bit before I go back to something I’m working on that I hope will become a worthy commemorative piece for the end of Merlin! *sniff* (MY ART TAG)
I was inspired by that adorable “Keep your grubby hands off my dumplings!” scene in episode 5x07. Well, I think Merlin definitely deserves a dumpling! Shame the cook doesn’t seem to agree… (MY ART TAG)
A midnight sketch of a dapper-looking Ben from To the Ends of the Earth, which I do plan to watch some time… Just pencil, edited in Photoshop. (MY ART TAG)
Another portrait of Merlin! I wonder if I’ll ever tire of drawing his face… Gosh, if Colin Morgan knew just how much time I’ve spent studying his features! >_> Anyway, this is pencil on Moleskine watercolour paper, with editing and texture application in Photoshop. (MY ART TAG)
I’m sorry, but I do love me some whump and angst! I didn’t settle on a specific scenario for poor Merlin and Arthur to end up like this, so I’ll let your fanfic-fueled minds decide, eh? XD Experimenting with a new style, again, in Paint Tool SAI. (MY ART TAG)
So, I wanna start drawing more Merlin from my head - without major references, I mean, and more stylized - though I’ll still do the occasional realistic piece. Also hoping to post more doodles like this (though I’ll look back and cringe) and then gradually develop a consistent style, yarr… Well, I’ve started with these quick profiles! I actually find Arthur more difficult to draw than Merlin… Need more practice with him! ; ) (MY ART TAG)
